Our Story

The Woman Who Changed Her Brain

The story of Arrowsmith begins with its Founder, Barbara Arrowsmith-Young, and her own journey of being told to live with the limitations of her learning difficulties and her “unchangeable brain”.

Arrowsmith was born from Arrowsmith-Young’s own painful struggle with her learning disorder and the journey she went through to not only overcome it, but to begin helping others strengthen their brain and change their educational and professional lives.

Learn more in Arrowsmith-Young’s TEDx Talk, or read her story first-hand in her book, The Woman Who Changed Her Brain.

Change Brains. Transform Lives.

Families, individuals and organizations rely on Arrowsmith’s network of neuroplastic programs, state of the art technology, and ongoing support and consultation to transform learning abilities.

Through the application of neuroplasticity, Arrowsmith enables individuals, families and organizations to strengthen cognitive capacity, and enhance the pursuit of meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Let's Create a World Where:

  • everyone has the ability to think flexibly and reason causally

  • everyone makes better decisions

  • there are fewer cognitive issues, leading to less behavioural issues

  • everyone is more compassionate

  • learning is accomplished with ease and joy

  • problems are viewed as opportunities needing a solution

Our Brain is Our Most Valuable Asset - Everyone Should Have the Right to Enhance and Develop This Asset

We believe in the human potential, and we know that the brain can change.

We believe the brain is our most valuable asset and that the world is just starting to leverage it to its fullest potential.

For more than 40 years Arrowsmith has used neuroplasticity to change and transform the brains -and lives - of people of all ages.

Together with families and organizations, Arrowsmith can strengthen the brain to help you overcome specific challenges or simply be at your best.

What is Neuroplasticity?

Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to reorganize itself, both in structure and function.

Arrowsmith uses neuroplastic principles to fundamentally improve the quality of life of individuals – at any age, and from any starting point.

Scientifically proven targeted brain programs mean core functions like attention, problem-solving, understanding and memory can be enhanced. Profound improvements have been shown across domains of learning, performance and life. Arrowsmith’s application of neuroplasticity has the potential to change brains, and the world as we know it.

Hear From Industry Experts

The fact that Arrowsmith trains the brain processors that make possible reasoning and rationality, is arguably one of the most important positive developments one could imagine for our world, with its complex problems.

Dr. Norman Doidge
Researcher and Author of The Brain That Changes Itself

There seems to be a story here about cognitive efficiency which includes working memory and attention and learning, the capacity to learn new things. These are really important cognitive skills for success at school and life in general.

Dr. Rachel Weber
Researcher, University of British Columbia State

Arrowsmith is changing the trajectory of these students’ lives.

Dr. William Lancee
Researcher, University of Toronto

There is neuroplasticity as a function of Arrowsmith training, which generally improves performance. So–do precise Arrowsmith cognitive exercises activate and functionally change particular areas or networks of the brain? The answer, is yes.

Dr. Greg Rose
Researcher, Southern Illinois University

Every child is capable of handling curriculum as long as the brain is given the correct retraining to then understand meaning, ideas and concepts.
