Webinar Series: Shaping Our Brains - How Neuroplasticity Can Enrich Our Lives

Part 1: The Brain: Our Most Important Asset

For hundreds of years scientists and philosophers have debated the role of our brain in behaviour, thought, and senses. These days, we know to be humbled by it. Considered to be the most complex object in the universe, we have learned more about the brain in the last 40 years than in all previous centuries, thanks to the accelerated pace of neurological and behavioural science, and perhaps our own curiosity to understand how we work.

How does the brain allow us to perceive and interpret the world around us? How does it allow us to make friends, express our ideas, make sense of our world, complete tasks big and small? At Arrowsmith, we are obsessed with these questions. For the last 40 years, we have honed our understanding of research and applied these principles to our work. How it operates, how it’s designed, and how it allows us to participate meaningfully in life. Building a methodology of cognitive exercises means we first needed to understand the brain’s beautiful complexity.

This webinar series will begin with an examination of our brain’s operating system. We will introduce the intellectual processes that underlie some of life’s essential functions: memory, problem-solving, and reasoning. We’ll also examine skills that at first glance seem simple– reading or writing a single word – but in fact, require a host of brain functions to be working together in synchrony.

Understanding the brain’s magnificence means understanding ourselves, and each other. We hope you’ll join us on this exploration of the brain - indeed our most important asset. It will be the first step towards an appreciation of not only how the brain shapes us, but how we can shape our brains.
